SprintPoker AI Insight

SprintPoker AI Insight

This page provides an overview of the optional AI Insight feature in SprintPoker.

It explains how moderators can use AI to help guide estimation discussions by generating a complexity analysis and suggested story point range based on the issue title and description. It also highlights the configuration options available — both at the session level (enable/disable AI, auto-trigger per issue) and global admin level (instance-wide control).

AI Insight (Optional)

SprintPoker includes an optional AI-powered assistant designed to help teams estimate more efficiently by analyzing issue context and suggesting complexity levels and story point ranges.

🔍 What is AI Estimation?

AI Estimation helps your team:

  • Understand issue complexity at a glance

  • View summarized key considerations before estimating

  • Get a recommended story point range based on historical patterns

  • Align on scope with context-driven suggestions

This feature is completely optional and only visible when activated by a session moderator.

⚙️ Enabling AI in a Session

To use AI estimation during your SprintPoker session:

  1. When creating a session, enable AI Features in the configuration panel.

  2. (Optional) Check Auto-trigger AI Response if you want AI suggestions to appear automatically when each issue is selected during estimation.

🧠 How AI Insights Work

Once enabled, moderators will see a "Show Hint" button during the estimation phase. Clicking it (or auto-triggering) will analyze the selected issue’s:

  • Complexity Level (e.g. Low, Medium, High)

  • Complexity Summary

  • Key Considerations

  • Recommended Estimate Range

  • Supporting Notes

These insights are based on prior completed tickets with similar characteristics. It helps teams align faster — especially during backlog refinement or with new/unfamiliar issues.

🛡️ Privacy & Data Handling

SprintPoker’s AI Assist uses a sandboxed version of ChatGPT. To generate insights, it temporarily sends:

  • Issue title

  • Issue description

No other data (e.g., user comments, Jira history, attachments) is shared. This ensures minimal exposure while still providing value.

🔐 Admin Control: Enable/Disable Globally

Jira Admins can enable or disable AI assistance globally from the AI Settings in the app’s configuration panel.

This gives organizations full control over whether AI features are made available to teams across the Jira instance. We do have plans to allow custom API keys in the future so users can use their own AI service.

✅ When to Use AI Estimation

AI Estimation is especially useful when:

  • Teams are new or unfamiliar with a backlog

  • You’re short on time and need a quick jumpstart

  • You want an objective starting point for discussion

  • Estimating asynchronously without full team presence

💡 Only moderators can trigger the AI estimation per issue.

📌 Summary

AI Estimation Assist is designed to complement, not replace, your team’s judgment. By providing helpful insights on issue complexity and size, it enables faster, more informed estimation sessions.

Use it as a guide, not a decision-maker.
