🛠️ Creating an Estimation Session

Start your first estimation session in just a couple of steps. Whether you’re running real-time planning or asynchronous estimation, SprintPoker makes it simple to get your team aligned and ready to estimate.

✅ Step 1: Configure Your Session

Set the foundation for your session by choosing your mode, naming it, assigning roles, and enabling features.

🃏 Choose Session Type

Select between two game modes:

Poker Mode: Real-time, collaborative estimation.
Async Mode: Estimate on your own schedule — perfect for distributed teams.

📝 Name Your Session

Give your session a clear and memorable name — for example:
Sprint 34 - Mobile App Planning or Q2 Bug Bash Estimations.

🔒 Session Visibility

Decide who can join:

Public: Anyone in your Jira instance can join.
Private: Only users added manually can access the session.

You can also control whether users:

Can update their vote after the reveal.
See vote results instantly once all votes are in (Auto-Reveal).

🧮 Estimation Field & Lane Values

Select the estimation field in Jira where votes will be saved (e.g., Story Points, Original Estimate, or a custom field).
Define lane values — the estimation values shown on cards (e.g., Fibonacci, T-Shirt sizes, custom).

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Assign Participants & Roles

Easily add team members and drag them into one of three roles:

Moderator
Participant
Observer

You can assign unlimited users and change roles at any time.

🤖 Enable AI Features (Optional)

Show Hint: Allows moderators to trigger AI-based estimate suggestions on-demand.
Auto-Trigger AI: Automatically runs AI suggestions as each issue is selected during the session.

✅ Step 2: Select Issues for Estimation

Choose which Jira issues will be included in your session.

🔍 Search & Advanced Filtering
Use the search bar to filter issues by multiple fields such as labels, epics, and issue types.

Enabling Advanced Search allows you to use full JQL queries, matching Jira’s native query syntax. This also lets you search across multiple projects in your Jira instance, as long as you have the appropriate permissions.

🔍 Browse & Select Issues

SprintPoker loads your backlog in batches for performance. Simply scroll to load more issues and check the boxes to select what you want to estimate.

Selected issues appear in a pinned panel at the top for quick review.

📄 View Issue Details (Customizable!)

Click any issue to see a full detail panel on the right — including:

Description
Parent / Epic info
Sub-tasks
Any Jira custom fields

You can fully customize this layout to show the fields you care about using the ⚙️ icon in the panel.

💾 Save as Draft or Start

Once you're ready, choose:

Start Session: Launches the session immediately and opens the board.
Save as Draft: Save your progress to come back later from your dashboard.

✅ You’re Ready to Estimate
Your team can now join the session and start estimating — whether live or async. Moderators can manage the flow, trigger AI hints, or jump straight into the first issue.
