When a consensus is reached on an estimate among team members, it's common practice to record this agreed-upon value in a specific custom field within Jira, often called the 'estimation field.'
In Agility Poker Planning for Jira Cloud, estimating issues is contingent on the proper configuration of the estimation field, ensuring it's suitable for the relevant issue types. The absence of issues like Bugs or Tasks in Agility Poker Planning for Jira suggests the need to include the estimation field (like Story Points) for those particular issue types.
Implementing the estimation field for specific issue types
Take the Story Points field, for example; it isn't automatically available for the Bug issue type. To activate the Story Points field for various issue types, you would:
Go to the Jira main menu, select Projects, and then View all projects.
Choose the desired project, click the three dots icon, and go to Project settings.
In the sidebar, select Fields, then Actions > Edit Fields.
To edit the Story Points field for different issue types:
In the sidebar, go to Custom fields, locate Story Points, and click the three dots for Contexts and default value.
Edit the Configuration to include different issue types.
Save your modifications by clicking Modify.
Note: You might also need to add the Story Points field to relevant screens. If it's still not visible, it could be hidden due to field configurations.
Setting Up the 'Original Estimate' Time Field:
To set up a time field like 'Original Estimate', follow a similar process as above. Additionally, ensure to add Time Tracking to the Issue screens.
Time Tracking fields, including the Original Estimate, might not be readily visible. To add Time Tracking:
Navigate to Jira settings > Issues > Screens.
Choose the appropriate screen, click the three dots icon, and select Configure.
Include Time Tracking in the list.
Alternatively, for specific issue estimation, open the issue details, click Configure in the bottom right, and access the screen mentioned on the Issue layout page.
Managing Field Visibility:
For Scrum boards, set the field in the board configuration. For Kanban boards, define it in session configurations.
Jira's field visibility management can be intricate. The Field Helper tool can assist in this process:
Open the issue in question.
On the Edit issue screen, click the three dots icon and select Find your field.
Enter the field name for details on its visibility.
By adhering to these steps, you can effectively manage the Original Estimate time field and ensure field visibility in Jira, facilitating a seamless estimation process in Agility Poker Planning.
